Our Drinking Water | A Guide to the Poconos and Northeastern Pennsylvania
Pocono Regions Drinking Water / Protect the Source
The Pocono Mountains region in northeastern Pennsylvania relies primarily on groundwater from wells as its drinking water source, with some surface water from reservoirs and streams in certain areas, but individuals are serviced through a combination of private individual wells/ springs and larger community water supply systems. “Water quality is generally excellent due to the area's forested watersheds and low population density, but like many rural regions, it can face challenges from natural minerals, agricultural runoff, and legacy industrial contaminants. Public water systems are regulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) under the Safe Drinking Water Act and must meet federal EPA standards. “ (Source: AI Grok)
