KnowYourH2O is divided into Indoor and Outdoor educational sections. A heavily used Outdoor tool is our Surface Water Quality Index Calculator. Because surface and groundwater are connected, we must be concerned about all water issues—not just drinking water or private wells.

What makes the Water Quality Index Calculator innovative is that it converts readily measurable water quality data into a score to evaluate and describe surface water quality. The tool is free and is used by citizen scientists, educators, and others in over 53 countries.

Working as a Community

Since beta in April 2023, the tool has been used more than 6,000 times across 67+ countries, with 20 countries submitting real surface water data to build a Citizen Science Global Map.
